William Clow Douglas graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Business, after serving in the Army’s Tenth Mountain Division during World War II, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. Although he spent most of his adult life in Lake Forest IL. working as a stockbroker, investment banker and venture capitalist, he fell in love with the Rocky Mountains during his Army training days so he maintained a home there for many years. Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to create several privately held companies including the Illinois Company, Douglas Securities, and North Star Inc. Susan worked with Bill at North Star Inc. and Fuelman Western Inc. managing his personal finances were many since he was one of the heirs of the Quaker Oats empire. She worked with Bill up until he retired, in 2002 at the age of 74 at which point his son William Douglas Jr. took over. Go with grace and honor Bill, he sadly passed on March 6, 2013.

Ed Small, President of Sierra Construction, Inc. Since 1977, a custom home builder, remodel specialist, and light commercial developer has been a successful contractor for 30 years. We have managed up to $10 million in gross sales. Sierra built small subdivisions in the Eagle River area of Vail, Coloradofrom 2003 to 2013. Susan helped him manage the construction cost while being built, financing with the banks, and closings of the properties upon sale and the transfers of all the warranties to the new owners. These properties transferred with clean and clear titles, quality and enjoyable homes for the new owners.

 Quail Run Town homes is a Non-Profit Organization formulated in 2001 consisting of 72 individual three-story townhome units. This property was self-managed by its owners who hired a property management company to handle the maintenance of the common areas, structural components, and organization of the association meetings. Susan handled all of the annual budgeting, accounting and documentation of the unit sales from 2007 to 2011. She also maintained and improved the collections and delinquencies of dues for the association through the down turn of the economy thereby reducing as much impact to the members as possible. An accumulation of reserves provided the association with an amazing face-lift, that started in 2014 and improved property values.

 Vail Valley Medical Center Volunteer Corps, was founded by Paula Wahle in 1979 and has grown from 13 to more than 200 members. Although the Volunteer Corps initially focused their efforts on fundraising for the hospital, it has since become instrumental in assisting patients, guests and staff at Vail Valley Medical Center, Shaw Regional Cancer Center, Sonnenalp Breast Center and Beaver Creek Medical Center on a daily basis. Each year, the VVMC Volunteer Corps donated more than 10,000 service hours and as much as $60,000 to Vail Valley Medical Center. The annual Fashion Show and Luncheon is the Volunteer Corps’ largest fundraising event and draws nearly 400 guests for high fashion and fun. Susan started out volunteering as the Treasurer for the Board of Directors in 2008 and later became the Board President in 2011. She provided her skills as an accountant and tax preparer, as well as leadership of the group.
